Theme: A Zeolite for the Environment
Abstract: This seminar is on the applications of a small-pore zeolite to catalysis and separations.  The goal of the presented computational research is to elucidate molecular mechanisms.  First, the mechanism of the oxidation of methane using Pd/SSZ-13 zeolite is shown.  The active site is identified, the reaction network is computed, and the rate-controlling step is determined via microkinetic modeling.  The second part of the seminar is on the adsorption and separation of gas streams using Ag/SSZ-13.  In addition to first-principles modeling, a Bayesian inference provides the best combined chemical insight into the adsorption mechanism using both the model and experiments.  Overall, computational research is shown to be practically effective for advancing this zeolite in environmental applications.
