FORTH/ICE-HT at the 21st Forum of Development /Money Show
The Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences (FORTH/ICE-HT) participated in the 21st Forum of Development/Money Show and organized the session entitled “New R&D collaborations of FORTH / ICE-HT with industry promoting innovation”. The event took place on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 12.30, at the ASTIR hotel in Patras.
The session included presentations by and panel discussion among representatives of companies that collaborate with FORTH/ICE-HT in national or regional research projects.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Director of the Institute, Dr. Vassilios Burganos, who presented the three main Research Areas of the Institute and stressed particularly the role of the experienced research and administrative staff of the Institute. He mentioned the implementation of a large number of national and EC-funded collaborative projects by the Institute. He focused primarily on the collaborative projects with companies and regional bodies.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Maria Klapa, Principal Researcher of FORTH/ICE-HT, who introduced the invited speakers and partners of ICE-HT in research projects. These included, Ms. Fotini Karaboula, Health and Safety Quality Manager of Karampoulas, G., & Sons LP, who presented the participation of the company in the Research Project: Biotransformation of Food Industry Waste into Biopolymers for Packaging Products in the Framework of a biorefinery, Mr. Antonios Vavouliotis, CEO, Adamant Composites Ltd., who presented the Project: “Flexible production line of multifunctional fabrics and films through processing, deposition and modification of their surfaces“, Mr. Artemis Hatziartemiou, Cultivation Manager, of the company VOION ALOE VERA IKE, who presented the Project: “Metabolomics and precision agriculture in the quality control of Aloe vera plant culture and products “. The last talk o fthe session involved the presentation of the collaborative project of FORTH/ICE-HT with TRSC of PPC SA («ΚΔΕΠ-ΔΕΗ») by Dr. Maria Klapa, scientific coordinator of the project, who described the collaboration of the Institute with the company in the project: “BIOMEK – Biotransformation of gas pollutants from PPC SA lignitic plants into useful chemicals”.
The event was attended by members of the Institute and representatives of private sector companies, executives of the Region of Western Greece and members of the academic and research community.
FORTH / ICE-HT also participated in the Forum with its own stand, displaying its research activities through posters and a video. The demonstration of the Institute at the stand concerned the precision agriculture methodology developed by the Metabolic Engineering and Systems Biology Laboratory, using metabolomics and systems biology approaches for the standardized quality control of commercial tomato plant culture and product.
