Τhe Celebration Event for the 40^th  Anniversary of ICE-HT took place on Friday 8 November 2024 at the Conference Centre of FORTH/ICE-HT.

The program included scientific presentations by ICE-HT alumni, who have excelled in academia and the private sector, followed by a session in which ICE-HT alumni and current members of the Institute Community shared their stories and pictures from their life at ICE-HT.

Unfortunately, the event was interrupted at 4:00 pm by a nearby fire, which spread quickly due to strong winds and forced us to evacuate the Institute. We changed the program  continuing the celebration with a dinner at a known restaurant in Patras.  In a festive atmosphere, Distinguished Members of the institute were honored for their contribution.  In particular, awards were granted to two historical members of the General Secretariat of Research and Technology, Dr. Dimitris Deniozos, for his long-standing support in establishing ICE-HT as a centre of excellence and his significant contribution to the development of R&D in Greece, and Dr. Savvas Tsilenis, for the excellent architectural design of the Institute buildingss and for his long-lasting support to the establishment of ICE-HT as a Centre of Excellence, and also to Professors Xenophon Verykios and Petros Koutsoukos for their contribution to the development and establishment of ICE-HT as a Centre of Excellence and their significant contribution to the development and establishment of the Technological Science Park of Patras.  Additionally, we honored the former Directors of the Institute, Prof. George Papatheodorou, Founding Director of ICE-HT (1984-1999), Prof. Costas Galiotis, Director of ICE-HT (2007-2013), Dr. Vasilis Burganos, Director of ICE-HT (2013-2023) and the late Alkiviades Payiatakes, Founding Member & Director of ICE-HT (1999-2006).  Also the President of FORTH, Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis. and the Director General of the construction company EKTER S.A., Mr. Athanasios Bakoyannis, co-signed the contract for the construction of the new building of ICE-HT.

This one-day event was attended by more than 150 Researchers, Employees, Alumni, Directors and members of ICE-HT and other FORTH Institutes. More specifically, we note the presence FORTH President, Prof. Nektarios Tavernarakis, and the IMBB and BRI Directors, Profs. I. Vontas and S. Christoforidis, respectively, and the Director of STEP-C, Dr. G. Papamichail.
