Theme: Laser-assisted production of high-quality graphene and graphene-based nanohybrids: Ιnnovative processes in energy storage devices
Abstract: After years of focused research in both basic and applied graphene science, we now have a well-rounded understanding of graphene’s physical and chemical properties relevant to specific applications. However, experimental challenges persist, particularly in achieving large-scale synthesis of high-quality graphene, which is essential for translating theoretical insights into practical applications. While laser-assisted methods hold great promise for graphene synthesis – offering rapid processing, cost-effectiveness, environmental sustainability, and seamless integration into existing platforms – their full potential has yet to be realized. We will present our recent work employing various laser-assisted techniques to produce diverse graphene-based materials, including 3D porous graphene films, heteroatom-doped graphene, and graphene/nanoparticle hybrids, all synthesized through single-step, ambient-condition processes. Our approach focuses on laser-driven transformation of different carbon sources, such as carbides, graphene oxide, polymers, and biomass-derived substances. We will also discuss potential applications of this methodology in developing 3D graphene-based scaffolds as electrodes, with promising implications for flexible electronics, smart textiles, and advanced electrochemical energy storage devices.
