Athanasios Nenes co-chaired the General Assembly 2023 of the European geosciences union (EGU23)


Athanasios Nenes, FORTH/ICE-HT Affiliated Scientist, Coordinating Member, Center for the Study of Air Quality and Climate Change (C-STACC [1]) and Professor, School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, EPFL, Switzerland, CO-CHAIRED THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2023 [2] OF THE EUROPEAN GEOSCIENCES UNION (EGU) [3], EGU23, which was held in Vienna and online on April 23-28, 2023. The EGU General Assembly brings together scientists from all over the world to one large meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. EGU23 was a great success, welcoming 18,859 registered attendees with more than 100 countries, presenting more than 16,500 presentations in 938 sessions. The EGU 2023 Awards and Medals ceremony was opened with a chamber music performance by Prof. Marion Holness on the violin (EGU Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology & Volcanology Division president [4] and Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge) and Prof. Nenes at the piano, which you may enjoy here [5]. Prof.Nenes also served as the EGU Atmospheric Sciences Division president [6] from 2019-2023 and currently serves as the Division’s deputy president.
