Research Activities:


  • Matrix pathobiology, cell signaling, molecular targeting, preclinical evaluation of drugs and toxicological assessment of nanomaterilas at cellular level.
  • Implication of proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans, metalloproteinases and acidic glycoproteins in tissue organization, pathogenesis and progression of various disorders, such as cancer, atherosclerosis and inflammation.
  • Signal transduction pathways mediating the gene expression and biosynthesis of matrix molecules by various normal or cancer cells. Regulation of gene expression by cytokines and growth factors are also studied.
  • Development of highly sensitive bioanalytical methods and their application to identify macromolecular structure-activity relationship in physiological and pathological conditions as well as in disease diagnosis, monitoring and pharmacokinetic studies.

 

Participation in Research Projects:

Principal Investigator or Collaborator in National and (GSRT-PENED, THALIS, HRAKLEITOS, KESY, etc), International (EU Leonardo, EU Comet, FEBS-ALC, FP7 etc) and Industrial research projects in the areas of biotechnology, oncology, safety analysis/cytotoxilogy and pharmacokinetics.

 

Publications:


  • Over 250 publications in international peer review journals, book series and full proceeding and over 30 book chapters.
  • Editor of the International book edition: Extracellular Matrix: Pathobiology and Signaling, De Gruyter, Berlin/Boston (2013).
  • 3 books on biomolecules structure-function, biochemical analysis, immunoassays and advanced biochemistry.
  • Over 250 abstracts in proceedings of International and Hellenic scientific conferences.

Graduate teaching: Courses Masters & Ph.D.: Lectures in Advanced Biochemistry I and II, Molecular Biology & Molecular Biotechnology, Clinical Biochemistry, Organic & Biochemical Analysis.
Trainees: Supervisor for 13 PhD and 25 MSc awarded titles, 5 PhD and 5 MSc under progress.
