Physical origins and characterization of the nonlinear optical properties of materials, Photonic materials (e.g. fullerenes and fullerene derivatives, nanoparticles, polymers, hybrid materials, etc), Sensors, Nonlinear Optics, Photonics and Molecular Electronics, Laser Spectroscopy, Laser Produced Plasmas for Analytical Applications (e.g. LIBS: Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for environmental applications and monitoring of industrial processes, LIF: Laser Induced Fluorescence), Laser based Combustion Diagnostics, Physics of Electrical Discharges, Plasma Diagnostics, Atomic and Molecular Multiphoton Laser Spectroscopy, Applications of Lasers.


Participation in Research Projects:

Scientific responsible of more than 20 European Union funded research projects (e.g. IST, COST, GROWTH, BRITE-EURAM, ECSC, Raw Materials, TMR & HCM, etc) and several National research projects (PEP Crete, PENED 2001, PENED 2004, etc) Participant as senior research scientist in several other EU projects.



More than 100 refereed journal papers; Participation in more than 100 International Conferences; 2 Chapters in internationally edited Books; 2 Books for the Greek Open University.
