The Autosorb-1 measures the quantity of gas adsorbed onto or desorbed from a solid surface at a given gas pressure. From the adsorption-desorption isotherm (adsorbed gas volume vs gas pressure), the pore size distribution and the connectivity of the pores can be extracted using standard models of the literature or models developed at ICE/HT. Adsorption data at selected gas pressures may be used to find the specific area of the porous or powder samples using BET, Langmuir or another applicable equation. Nitrogen is the standard probe molecule used, but for measuring micropores (< 1 nm) Ar and Kr can also be used. The device is equipped with a chemisorption unit and is available for chemisorption measurements using H2 and other gases on metal catalysts.
