STRATIS V. SOTIRCHOS Lectureship Award 2015
The 2015 recipient of the FORTH/ICE-HT “Stratis Sotirchos Lectureship Award” is Dr. Ali Khademhosseini, Full Professor, Harvard Medical School, Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology and Associated Faculty at the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, USA. Dr. Khademhosseini received his award in a special ceremony during the 10th Panhellenic Chemical Engineering Conference, which took place on Thursday June 4, 2015 and presented the award lecture titled “Nano- and Microfabricated Hydrogels for Regenerative Engineering“.
Dr. Ali Khademhosseini received his B.S. and Master’s from the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Toronto, Canada, and his Ph.D. from the Department of Bioengineering, MIT, USA under the supervision of Prof. Robert Langer. His research has been acknowledged for seminal contributions to polymer and materials science, micro- and nano- engineering and medicine, which will enable advances in treatment of patients and regenerative therapeutics. He has edited multiple books and authored more than 350 journal articles, 50 book chapters/editorials, and 20 patent/disclosure applications. His work received more than 17500 citations and has an h index of 68. He has been the recipient of more than 30 awards and prestigious distinctions, among which we underline that he has received significant young investigator awards from three major engineering societies in US: IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS) award and IEEE Nanotechnology award, Colburn Award and Nanoscale Science and Engineering Forum (NSEF) Young Investigator Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Y.C. Fung award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. In 2014 he was elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
FORTH/ICE-HT created the “Stratis V. Sotirchos Award” to honor the memory of one of its most distinguished Researchers, Professor Stratis V. Sotirchos, FORTH/ICE-HT Research Director. The awardee, preferably younger than 40 years of age, is selected by a committee of internationally renowned scientists, on grounds of having produced original and fundamentally important results in chemical engineering sciences.
