Payatakes\u201d<\/a>\u00a0of the Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH\/ICE-HT) took place on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 17:00h. at the institute\u2019s conference center. The Distinguished Lecture was given by Dr. Spyros Pandis, Professor of the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Patras in Greece, collaborating faculty member of FORTH\/ICE-HT and co-director of its Center for Air Quality and Climate Change in the Foundation for Research and Technology, Hellas.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture was entitled \u00ab\u0391tmospheric \u039frganic Aerosol: From the Dawn of History to the Future\u00bb. \u201cAlkiviades Ch. Payatakes\u201d Distinguished Lectures are organized every year by FORTH\/ICE-HT in Patras, to honor the memory of A. C. Payatakes (1945-2009), Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Patras, Director of ICE-HT (1999-2006), and Chairman of FORTH from 2006 until his passing, on the 29th November 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Pandis received his PhD from California Institute of Technology in 1991 and joined the faculty of Carnegie Mellon University in 1993 and of the University of Patras in 2004. His research includes theoretical and experimental studies of atmospheric chemistry as it relates to urban and regional pollution and global climate change. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed papers, and he is the author together with Prof. Seinfeld of \u201cAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics\u201d, a textbook that is widely used around the world. He has been awarded the Fuchs Award by the International Aerosol Research Assembly, the Whitby and Sinclair Awards by the American Association for Aerosol Research, the Cecil Award in Environmental Engineering by the American Institute of Chemical Engineering, the Bjerkness Medal by the European Geophysical Union, and the CAREER award by the US National Science Foundation.
